Tra Vigne Restaurant, nestled in the heart of Napa Valley’s historic St. Helena, delivers a captivating blend of old world Italy and the fresh, local ingredients of wine country. The vine covered building has tall, grand ceilings. Adjacent is the mesmerizing Tuscan Courtyard, and a canopy of trees with festive white lights offers diners “al fresco” dining in a restaurant that celebrates its 25th year in the Napa Valley.
The menu at Tra Vigne represents the marriage of two of the world’s most renowned culinary regions: Tuscany – defined by hearty pastas, meats, cheese and olive oil – and Napa Valley – a destination that celebrates fresh, local ingredients with a focus on artisanal preparation designed to highlight its acclaimed wines. With over 25 years in business, Tra Vigne is a quintessential wine country experience.
Indulge in Chef Nash Cognetti’s hand-pulled fresh mozzarella while enjoying specialty cocktails and wines from our award-winning list. Our list of more than 200 wines changes weekly, always with additions of new, exciting Napa Valley and Italian finds. Our kitchen is driven by the freshest regional and seasonal ingredients. This cooking is the heart and hand of Italy, an amazing complement to the beautiful Napa Valley. It’s not uncommon to see vintners dining at the classic bar. Sometimes Tra Vigne has the feel of a downtown Milan restaurant, other times it’s more like an elegant café in Barolo.
Executive Chef & Managing Partner Anthony “Nash” Cognetti began his culinary career at the ripe age of twelve working in the family business, Notarianni Produce Company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The company, started by his immigrant Italian grandfather, eventually became the largest produce distributor in the state of Pennsylvania.
Nash graduated from the University of Vermont in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. A post graduation road trip down the California Coast led Nash away from his formal education and back into the kitchen. He hit pay dirt when he dined at Ventana Inn and Spa in Big Sur, introduced himself to the Chef, and was hired on the spot as a line cook. His experience in Ventana’s four-star kitchen made Nash realize that his passion was cooking. He moved to San Francisco and enrolled in the California Culinary Academy to formalize his education.
In 2005 he yearned to live and work in California’s Wine Country, and found a home at Tra Vigne Restaurant in St. Helena where he became the Executive Chef in 2006. Tra Vigne is the perfect match for his personality, passion, talent, culinary skills and formal education. Locals and visitors alike have given him a warm and enthusiastic welcome in the Napa Valley.
Tra Vigne Restaurant boasts the following eight unique private dining venues that can accommodate ten to 200 guests. The Tuscan Courtyard is reminiscent of a visit into Italy’s Old Country. Festive lights are strung through a canopy of mulberry trees, setting the mood for an unforgettable evening al fresco. The Magnum Library is named for a collection of vintage wine bottles from around our valley. The dark, rich wood paneling, lit with soft, warm light is an inviting place to spend an evening among friends.
The Cantinetta is a historic stone building, once home to a sherry distillery in the 1800s. Covered in ivy, it’s been renovated to be a charming private event space. The Terrazzo is a covered patio overlooking the courtyard, off of our main dining room. This open air venue is truly unique in that it can be modified for use through each season, making it a perfect spot for lunch or dinner any time of year. The Tavolo Sociale is a lovely outdoor venue, perfectly suited for a single long table, in the great Italian tradition of family style dining, sharing great food and wine with great friends and family.
The Tavolo Romantico is a private, secluded garden setting for life’s most romantic moments. It is an idyllic location for a marriage proposal, to celebrate a special birthday or a milestone anniversary. You can also dine Tra Vigne in our Vineyard, with incredible views of the mountain range and the serenity of the setting sun. Lit with candles, it’s a magical spot, and a true Napa Valley experience.
The Cask Room at Merryvale is a timeless and romantic room for parties. The giant oak aging barrels and candelabra lit tables make for a dramatic setting reminiscent of the earliest days of Napa Valley winemaking.
